Tips From Volunteers
Below are some things that may be helpful for you to know as a new volunteer. It’s a list compiled by fellow volunteers of information that we think might be useful to know such as how the food works, how to use the washing machine properly, where to find plasters if you cut yourself etc. etc.
Bedding and Towels
- There is bedding (sheets, duvet covers, pillow covers), as well as extra duvets, towels and strandheim t-shirts free for use for all volunteers. It is all organised in the solbakken kitchen so take what you need when you need it!
- Next to the shelf is the laundery room where you will find the washing machines, dryers and also all cleaning supplies for refill. The powder for the washing machine is on top of the dryers. It’s important to note that the powder should only go into the compartment that has two lines only.
Fridge & Food
- In the solbakken kitchen is where we keep all groceries and leftovers for the guests. It is of course okay for the volunteers to also eat from here, but we make sure that everything we prepare is covered with the date it was made written on top.
- We try to use up all older ingredients first before opening fresher produce.
-It’s also importat to mark if the ingredient is special dietary or not for example: Laktose free, gluten free, vegetarian etc.
Health and Safety
- Accidents might happen, and that’s okay! If you happen to cut or burn yourself, you can find plasters, gels and wipes in the first aid box in solbakken kitchen.
- You can also find some things to use on the shelf.
Keys for Refill
- We keep the keys for opening toilet paper, soaps, tissue dispensors hanging on the notice board in solbakken kitchen.
- There is also a set of keys and some more refill products (toilet paper, bin bags etc.) in the cupboard in the main house kitchen.
