Welcome to Strandheim Campsite!

Since we are working and living together at the same campsite it is important to create a common ground what is ok and what is not. If you follow a small set of rules, your stay here will be more pleasant for all volunteers and for us as managers living here, and trying to create a new life here. It is our responsibility to make our guest feel welcome. It is important to always greet and smile to our guest when we meet them at the campsite.

General rules:

We have a lot of neighbors, the music should be off/low after 23:00, we are a nonalcoholic camp site, our guest are not allowed to drink during their stay (unless we have agreed on anything). You are allowed to have a beer or two after work but please be considerate to where you take it. Parties is a no during camps, and need to be agreed upon in advance. We’re happy to answer any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Better to ask one question to much than none if you’re unsure about anything.

We agree on 5 hours of work, 5 days a week/25 hours of work weekly. In some periods with a lot of bookings you might work more than 25h one week, but you will have the same amount of days off during a period of 2 weeks. In periods with maintenance and less camps we usually say ok if you want to work longer days and have more days off to explore the surroundings. If your work requires use of tools, you must always put it back where you found it. You are also responsible for leaving it back in the same condition as before and to tell us if something is broken.

Work:

Information:

In season we have a weekly meeting where we go through the bookings for the coming week. As all camps have some variations it is important for us to give you this information in advance. It is not mandatory to participate, but it makes the flow of information more easy for us. It usually takes around 20 minutes. For more urgent information we use a WhatsApp group. This is also where we put out the working schedule and checklist for different tasks. Every day starts with a short briefing where we go through the tasks for that day.

Shopping/groceries:

Since we have a big kitchen at Solbakken you would find the most basic thing there. Unless anything is written on the package this can be eaten/used as food for volunteers. Premade food in the freezer is an exception, that is pre-made to be served for camp. Depending on how many volunteers we are, and the time of year the routine of shopping for volunteers might change. Usually we ask for a list for fresh vegetables and what groceries you want 2-3 times a week. If we are busy you might do the shopping yourselves.

1. We always try to use leftovers and what already is in the fridge.

2. Look carefully what we have both in the main house and Solbakken so we don’t buy things already in stock, and we don’t throw away eatable food!.

3. Always look for the cheaper option(don’t buy avocado for 3eur pr).

4. We don’t provide “luxury” products (as steaks, candy, cookies, alcohol and tobacco etc).

Cars and equipment:

The campsite is in possession of 1 electric car and kayaks/cano. The rest of the cars, boats and equipment you will see at the campsite is our private. Please ask if there is something you want to borrow, and we will tell you if it is ok or not. If you want to use the kayaks you must wear a life west. If you have the permission to borrow something, it is expected to be delivered back in the same condition as before. About the fuel and cost of the car, we expect it to be left with a full tank after use.

Our apartment:

We live upstairs in a managers flat with our two children. This is our private home, please knock or call before you enter. The door from the kitchen to our hallway should always stay closed. We expect it to be quiet in the main house at 23:00 at all times.

Garbage/recycling:

We recycle the listed items:

• Food waste (green bags)

• Plastic (we store it in the basement)

• Paper/cartons

• Electrical stuff (we store it in the small room inside of the main house kitchen)

• Glass / metal

• General waste

• Bottles/cans (money from this is for volunteers to spend)

It is important that we are doing this the correct way, if not we will get a fine from the company collecting our garbage. All garbage must be put directly into the bins, and not left outside.

Fire instructions for

volunteers and staff

1. Make sure the manager or person responsible is notified if there is any alarm or fire.

2. If fire, give one person responsibility to call 110 while you take part in point 3.

How to reset alarm panel:

SOLBAKKEN: Entrance A, key to reset just inside entrance to the kitchen.

FRAM: Alarm panel in backroom next to fuse cabinet – instructions beside.

CABINS: Same as Solbakken, the key hangs in the cleaning closet of the kitchen in the main house.

Electrical awareness and responsibilities

for staff and volunteers

Let us know if you see or experience any of the listed:

• Cables, plugs or switches that is damaged

• Flickering light

• Wires/extension cables lying around

• Fuses going off

• Clothes/towels left on top of electrical heaters

I have been introduced to the following routines and procedures:

Fire safety: fire alarm panels, escape routines, camp routines.

Electric safety: Fuse cabinets – what to do In general – if anything is wrong, fix it if you can or notify the managers.

I have watched the YouTube link for fire safety in the home and can transfer the importance to Strandheim while I’m staying here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BopNRAaTj2o

I have a clear understanding of how to use the fire extinguisher and what to do in case of a fire/ or fire alarm.
